Having someone in your life you can rely on is nothing short of a blessing! But what if I told you this blessing is also a financial opportunity? Yes, having a second income helps manage your monthly expenses, but it’s not always enough to live the life you dream of. Don’t worry as we have the perfect solution. Working together as a couple on a side hustle from home is not only fun, but it will help you make extra money!

It allows you to distribute the responsibilities and leverage your skills to work on a side income. That’s exactly what Tessa Barton and Cole Herrmann did by launching their photo editing app called Tezza. What started as an editing app is now a lifestyle brand that brings in over $2.2 million a month. Talk about relationship goals!

Luckily, it’s never too late to start, especially when we have the best side hustles for couples. So grab your partner and start writing it down.

side hustles for couples

1. Flipping and Reselling Items Online

Are you familiar with a Japanese art form called Kinstugi? It is the art of repairing broken pottery using gold. Flipping is essentially the same, except you don’t use gold for the repairs. It is the process of upscaling pre-loved furniture, electronics, clothing, or even shoes and selling them for a profit. Flipping has become popular in the last few years as it promotes sustainability and is a great side hustle to make money online!

Start by flipping familiar things in your home that you think have good potential. For example, repaint and polish a coffee table, do the necessary repairs, and sell it. Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, and eBay are some of the best options to sell flipped items online. On the other hand, hosting a garage sale is a good option for offline sales.

Apart from furniture, vintage clothes, electronics, or limited-edition shoes are some of the best items to flip. Flipping is especially profitable for couples as it allows you to divide the work. While one of you paints and refurbishes the items, the other can manage the business aspects like managing and shipping orders.

2. Blogging Together

Blogging together is one of the best ways for couples to make money together! It helps you connect with other people by talking about something you are passionate about. Depending on your hobbies, you have different options like fitness, cooking, and travel. For example, I started this blog, Finsavyy Panda, as a place to document my financial journey. What started as an experiment, now has over 100,000 average monthly readers! Who knew starting a blog would allow my husband and I to work from home, travel the world, and gain freedom while earning a steady income?

Another benefit of blogging as a side hustle is that it’s comparatively easy to start. All you need to do is build a blog on platforms like WordPress or Squarespace and choose a niche you both love. To earn from the blog, use tools like Amazon Associates and Awin and get paid every time someone purchases through affiliate links.

3. Photography or Videography Business

Photography is the art of capturing emotions and memorializing these moments forever. It is a fun side income for couples, where they can work over the weekend or in their free time to click pictures for events. You also have the freedom to work together or separately and utilize your skills effectively.

Start by picking a niche market and your services. For example, if you pick wedding photography, packages like “Engagement photos + Wedding Portraits” or “5-Minute video with 50 edited pictures” will help you stand out. Similarly, designing different photography packages for specific niches like real estate, commercial events, etc., will help you get more clients. Photography is a competitive industry and to stand out from the crowd, you will have to use all the tools at your disposal like Instagram, Facebook, and local event listings.

4. Catering or Meal Prep Services

Food is nothing short of a love language, especially for all the foodie couples! Why not channel your love of food and build a business out of it? Catering or meal prep service is a great business idea as a side income or even full-time entrepreneurship.

The first step is to analyze what kind of catering services your locality needs. For example, handmade baked goods sell really well in suburban neighborhoods, while busy professionals and college students are always looking for healthy food options.

The next step is to figure out add-on services you should offer. Some popular choices include weekly meals, continental breakfasts, or even catering for special occasions. Once you have figured out the services you would like to provide, the next and arguably the most important step is to market your business. To do that, use exclusive discounts and early-bird offers to convert new customers into regulars!

Leverage social media (Facebook groups, subreddits like r/mealprep) and local community gatherings. Also, creating a mouth-watering Instagram page with photos of your dishes and services is a great way to attract clients.

5. Pet Sitting or Dog Walking

Pets and children are the only acceptable third wheels in a monogamous relationship. Jokes apart, if you are an outdoorsy couple, pet sitting or dog walking might be right up your alley. As a pet sitter, you will take care of a furry friend with your partner, and get paid for it! If that wasn’t enough motivation, did you know that full-time dog walkers can make up to $53,000 yearly?

Start by creating an account on pet-sitting apps like Rover and Wag! They are blessings in disguise and have made getting gigs easier than ever. Talking about blessings, working this job together not only makes it more fun but allows you to deliver added-value services. Offering additional services like grooming, training sessions, pet transportation, overnight stays, pet check-ins, and daily walks, will help you set higher rates and become popular!

Bonus tip: The holiday season and weekends are typically very busy and bring in the most business.

6. Handmade Crafts and Products

If you have a knack for crafting handmade products, you might be sleeping on one of the most profitable business ideas for couples! Marketplaces like Etsy have a huge market for handmade items like customized gifts, handmade jewelry, digital planners, and personalized stationery. It is a great idea for growing a steady income and scaling it to a full-time business. If handmade products are not your thing, why not sell custom T-shirts or Mugs using RedBubble, a print-on-demand service?

While pricing strategically is necessary, so is promoting your products. One of the best ways to do that is by collaborating with Instagram influencers for indirect promotion using posts and stories. Hosting giveaways also works like magic in improving sales and engagement. Lastly, professional photos of the product and an engaging description might be as important as the product itself.

7. Virtual Assistant or Freelancing Team

Maybe you are more organized as a couple and are looking for online jobs that will help you make some extra money! In that case, working as a virtual assistant could be the best side gig for you. In this position, you will be working as an assistant, just remotely. Use your individual strengths to tackle the tasks you are good at and divide the responsibilities like a boss. This can help you become a creative freelancing team where you take up different clients or projects and work on them together!

Apart from local community groups, freelance marketplaces like Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancer.com should be your go-to place for new clients. These platforms are the bread and butter for many writers, graphic designers, and video editors looking for work-from-home jobs. Being a couple already helps you stand out for obvious reasons. You will have more bandwidth for client management and project coordination.

8. Home Cleaning Business

All the perfectionists here will agree that there is nothing more satisfying than knowing everything around you is squeaky clean! Well, everyone loves to be tidy but can’t always do it by themselves. That’s where you come in with your professional home cleaning business, which could make over $300 a day. As a couple, you have the manpower to take it a step further. One of you can clean, while the other takes care of housekeeping tasks.

When starting a home cleaning business, it’s important to list out clearly what your services do and don’t include. This will help you avoid miscommunications with clients later. Comprehensive services like full-house cleaning and kitchen repainting help build regular customers, while specialized services like eco-friendly cleaning or move-in/move-out deep cleans will get you new clients.

9. Real Estate Investing

Investing in real estate can be an exciting and lucrative side hustle. As a couple, it becomes easier to juggle both your regular job and side income by defining each partner’s role clearly. For example, one can focus on financial analysis and budgeting, while the other coordinates renovations, staging, and viewings. It is not unlike flipping where you would be essentially buying and selling or renting real estate properties.

Start by researching the real estate in your neighborhood and properties on sale. This can be done by checking local real estate forums and Facebook Marketplace. These resources, along with Zillow, are great for analyzing the rental yields in your particular locality. As evident, there are different ways to make money as a couple from real estate investing, like flipping or renting it out. There is also a third one – Rent it out as an Airbnb, which does require you to be more hands-on but may pay better.

Bonus tip: Improve your rental yields with modern interior decor, welcome baskets, and exemplary guest service.

10. Make Deliveries Together

While many jobs for couples are primarily work-from-home, this one is not! Making deliveries together is a great way to spend time together and earn some money while at it. The best thing is that you get to choose what you deliver. Choose between delivering food with apps like Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Instacart to distribute packages with FedEx, Amazon, or BlueDart. Not only that, but you also have a flexible schedule where the two of you can work together or independently.

If you want to build a side income, it will be more productive to work together as it lets you divide responsibilities. For example, one person can drive while the other delivers the packages. Efficiency is the key here! Another way to maximize your earnings is to work during peak hours like dinner time, weekends, and holidays.
