Who said giving money as a gift feels boring or impersonal? Give me cash any time of the year as a gift and I’m going to hug the heck out of you!

I’m sure a ton of people feel the same way, especially for birthdays, where the cash can be used for whatever they want and need. Think of it as a win-win situation, where you won’t have to worry about the person loving what you give when cash is a surefire way to make them happy. You’re also assured that your gift will be put to great use!

If you’re worried about the possible “tackiness” of gifting cash, don’t just shove it in the birthday celebrant’s hand and call it a day! There are many fun ways to give cash for someone’s birthday so the gift will look like you put your love and thought into it.

And no, I’m not talking about the typical punny birthday gift cards. You can take things up a notch with cool birthday cash gift ideas like placing it in a balloon or setting up a scavenger hunt!

Read on as I help give you more ideas on gifting your loved ones cash on their special day!

1. Pretty Money Balloons

You can’t have a birthday party without balloons!

The birthday girl might be a bit confused as to why you’re handing them balloons but once they pop it, out comes a lovely surprise they’re going to love you so much for!

You can either hire someone to create personalized balloons with your cash gift and sprinkles, or you can do them yourself. My only suggestion is NOT to use helium when airing the balloons, you don’t want to risk your gift flying away. I’ve seen videos of people learning this the hard way and I don’t want that to be you!

2. Cool Pop-Out Money Gift Box

The celebrant might think you’re just giving them a cute trinket in that gift box, but little do they know it’s birthday money they’ll have to pull out!

I can already imagine their amusement as they pull the card and see dollar bill after dollar bill coming out, thinking, “When will it ever end?!”

This gift box is so easy to do yourself as well! If you want, you can spice your gift up even more by adding small messages inside the box to really show your love.

3. Unique Paper Fortune Cookies

These fortune cookies will bring good fortune to those celebrating their special day… At least in finances!

Ready your origami skills, because this is one of the coolest ideas for giving money as a gift, especially if you know your loved one is obsessed with Chinese takeout, like yours truly.

If you want to go the extra mile, you might even want to bake fortune cookies yourself and pretend they came from your local Chinese restaurant. Add your cash gift inside the cookies (one bill in each cookie) and see if you can still fit a small strip of paper with short sentences about how much you love the birthday gal. Now THAT’s a great gift!

4. Gorgeous Money Bouquet

A lot of us ladies love receiving flowers on special occasions, but by far, this would be one of my favorite bouquets yet!

You have the option to create your own flowers out of paper or to purchase a real bouquet and add the folded dollar bills inside. Either way, it’s such a unique way to gift cash on someone’s birthday.

Whether it’s for your partner, child, parent, or best friend, this money bouquet will surely look amazing on the gift table. It will take some origami skills, but it’s worth the effort!

5. Awesome Money Pizza Box

When there’s a birthday party, there’s almost always pizza involved. Why not give the guest of honor some fresh “dough” as their gift, too? And no, I’m not talking about more pizza.

You can ask for an extra pizza box from your local pizza place or purchase one for yourself. It’s the perfect excuse to have pizza while preparing your gift, too!

Take it a step further by purchasing multiple boxes of pizza and opening them one by one until you open the cash gift!

6. In Case of Emergency Break Glass Birthday Gift

We’ve all been in situations where it’s mid-month, and we’ve blown our entire monthly budget on a last-minute trip to Vegas. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have access to a set of gift cards to your favorite fast-food joints and cash to save the day?

And that’s what makes this “In Case of Emergency, Break Glass” (or plastic) birthday gift such a winner. It gets a laugh and comes in handy when it counts. Another way to customize this is to fill it with chocolate bars and candy to satisfy those sweet cravings.

7. Birthday Scavenger Hunt

If you’re planning and organizing an intimate birthday party for your partner or child, make it fun and interactive by making it into a scavenger hunt!

You don’t even need to give cash in all the presents they find, they can be the finale of the hunt as the “grand prize.” If you have multiple gifts, hide them in easy-to-find spots with clues to the next hiding place. It can be a fun treasure hunt that they’ll remember for life.

8. Surprise Money Confetti Poppers

“Is it raining confetti and… Cash on my birthday?” That’s right, here’s a cool way to give your loved one your cash gift! Let them scream in surprise and amusement as they see dollar bills flying around after blowing the candles.

You might think these are tough to make but there are easy DIY tutorials or you can use pre-made confetti poppers. Your little project will only take less than an hour to complete!

Recruit a few friends or family members to help you release all the confetti poppers at the right time, so all the colors and cash will be up in the air. It’s the perfect photo op!

9. Decadent Money Pull-Out Cake

It’s definitely NOT a birthday without cake! Make the candle-blowing festivities extra exciting by hiding cash inside part of the cake. That way, they can pull out dollar bills one by one, feeling excited with the well-thought-out cash gift.

Bake their favorite cake flavor or have it pre-ordered by your local bakery, requesting to have it designed with a cash gift pull-out box inside.

Don’t worry, both the cake and money will be separated from each other so there won’t be a mess and you can all enjoy the delicious cake afterward!

10. Funny Tissue Box Money Roll

If you know your relative or friend will feel emotional and tear up on their special day, this is the best time to gift them their tissue box. They’ll wonder why you would give such a gift, only to laugh so hard as they pull out a lot of dollar bills!

It’s an adorable gift that will bring in a lot of laughter, and maybe even some tears of joy. After all, there’s no better feeling than to be surrounded by the people you love, especially when they gift the cutest stuff like this!

11. Hilarious Money Fries

Is the man (or woman) of the moment obsessed with fries or fast food? Gift them the best and priciest takeout they’ve had!

This is a hilarious way of giving a cash gift! I recommend giving the celebrant a real burger first, then while they’re looking confused, you ask them, “Do you want a side of fries with that?” Afterward, present the money fries and I’m sure you’ll hear a lot of laughs around the room!
